Acquisition Standards

The promise of LibraryCo is to provide the lawyers of Ontario with access to information but not necessarily ownership. Libraries cannot afford to own everything, nor can they afford duplication.

  • Cancel report series that are not in constant demand in your library. County and district law libraries will work to ensure that the print version of each report series will be accessible if necessary.

Paper vs. Electronic

With the ability to negotiate on a system-wide basis LibraryCo achieves economies of scale for electronic resources.

  • If the information is available in an electronic format and LibraryCo facilitates access, traditional print sources that duplicate that information should not be retained.

This is an opportunity to free up funds for different resources.

  • Approved by the LibraryCo Board of Directors, November, 2002.
